It’s a brand new year and we’re ready and waiting for the next load of seasons and trends to hit us and guide us in what to wear. 2016 is sure to bring with it a whole host of events and fashionable choices, from high flying designers to the high street. If you’re interested in fashion and want to know what’s round the corner, either in the UK or abroad, here are some of the important dates for fashion in 2016.
As we enter 2016, the fashion world is already busy with various events. 8th-11th January sees the Autumn/Winter 2016 London Collections Men. Introduced in the summer of 2012 alongside collection shows in spring/summer and autumn/winter, London Collections Men has continued to grow in popularity as Britain celebrates the importance of the menswear industry in the country.
11th-23rd January brings the London Pre Collections. Pre collections, also known as resort or cruise collections, originally came to exist due to ladies who holidayed in winter and needed an ‘out of season’ wardrobe. Pre collection is now seen as a practical solution to bridge the gap between a label’s autumn and spring collections. You will often find that pre collections diversify from the usual options available in that particular season. While the big reveals of the seasonal trends are something everyone looks forward to, pre collections provide a solution to wearable fashion that is available quicker.
19th-23rd February is huge in the world of fashion; London Fashion Week AW16 takes place. Showcasing over 250 designers to a global audience, London Fashion Week occurs twice a year. Although the shows may not be open to the public, there are plenty of opportunities to peek at the top designer’s latest creations.
Once the chaos of London Fashion Week has calmed down somewhat, 25th-28th February sees the arrival of London Fashion Weekend. Offering a chance for some insider knowledge and style advice, the weekend is open to consumers. Complete with catwalk shows, expert panel talks and a first look at key trends for the season.
At the beginning of March, London takes its leading womenswear design talents over to Paris Fashion Week. During 2nd to 9th March, London Show Rooms provides a unique opportunity for emerging British designers to develop themselves internationally. Launched in 2008, it became an instant success and is a great chance to increase media presence for the designers.
London Collections Men makes its second appearance in 2016 during 10th to 13th June. Its Spring/Summer 2017 show continues to celebrate menswear and will enable designers to showcase their creations.
June also sees the return of London Pre Collections. 13th to 15th June brings another opportunity for designers to bring inter-season options to the table. Pre collections can be a designer’s biggest collection in terms of sales, and can even be a chance to test-drive certain styles and colours.
September is another big month in the fashion calendar. From 16th to 20th September, London Fashion Week SS17 takes place. It is estimated that orders over £100 million are placed during London Fashion Week each season.
